IFC: Asian green finance market needs to move beyond bonds

Momentum is building for greener financial markets in Asia, but there needs to be harmonisation of standards and more investor education on the types of assets available for this to happen, according to panellists at the Euromoney Conferences Asia Sustainable & Responsible Capital Markets Forum on September 26 in Hong Kong.

"Green finance has been the number one topic banks are discussing with us in the past year, even more so than digital," said Rachel Freeman, advisory manager, financial institutions group, Asia Pacific at the International Finance Corporation.

She observes that the popular movement from China, especially with the growing attention paid to pollution issues in cities such as Beijing, has been instrumental in driving green finance in Asia.
