Mifid II is keeping the market up at night

The new Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (Mifid II): if you don't know about this major addition to the EU's market oversight rules, you have clearly either been avoiding the news or been living under a rock.

Mifid's mild madness

Given all the media coverage and analysis Mifid II got ahead of its January 3 launch date, its coming into effect was a bit of an anti-climax. Commentators predicted widespread confusion because many in-scope organisations and trading venues would not have time to comply with extensive requirements.

A lot of them probably didn't make the deadline. But what regulators said wouldn't happen actually happened: a number of them announced that the implementation of some rules would be a subject to a further delay. The European Securities and Markets...
