Editorial: Worth the gamble?

Japanese internet services company GMO Group has announced that it will start paying a proportion of the salaries of those employees that agree to it in bitcoin.

In practice, this means that any employee will have the option to be paid in cryptocurrency at the relevant exchange rate on pay day, and could benefit from potential bitcoin price increases should they hang on to their e-money. A professor of finance at INSEAD told the BBC that employees might as well be handed lottery tickets instead of being paid, as remunerating them this way...
